Michael, 21, was last seen early Sunday morning near the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he was visiting friends. According to WLUK, a security guard for a company near the Fox River heard a man shouting for help around the same time. He called police and a search was launched, but officials did not recover the body until Monday afternoon. Oshkosh police are still trying to figure out exactly how the accident happened, but no foul play is suspected. Condolences from the sports world and beyond flooded social networks even before the announcement was made. Football star and sportscaster Troy Aikman tweeted "Prayers are with Green Bay Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin & his family during this most difficult time." "Heartfelt condolences to Packers OC Joe Philbin, his family and the extended Packers family," tweeted Rich Eisen of the NFL Network. "Words can not express." CNN reports that Packers General Manager Ted Thompson issued a statement Tuesday that read in part, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe, his wife, Diane, and the Philbin family as they cope with their loss." Michael Philbin was one of six children in the family, according to the Packers' website.

Any time a child dies is a tragic event. My heart goes out to the family.
