Yakcrazy Olympics Opening Ceremony Shatters Ratings Records

Quote:
NBC’s Friday-night broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London was on fire, ratings-wise, drawing 40.7 million total viewers, the most for any Summer Games opener on record (dating back 50 years).

For comparison’s sake, the opening ceremony for the Atlanta games (1996, NBC) drew 39.8 million, while Beijing (2008, NBC) played to 34.9 million viewers.

Versus the last European-based Olympics (Athens, 2004), London’s opener drew 15 million more viewers.

Earlier this morning, preliminary numbers suggested that NBC’s overnight rating/share set an all-time best for a non-U.S. opening ceremony. But per updated tallies (21.0/37), it instead represents the best for a non-U.S. Summer Olympics ever, and the second-best rating/share for a non-U.S. Games in 36 years (since Innsbruck, 1976).

I do want to know why us US viewers couldn't see the 7/7 tribute during the ceremonies? I think that would have been cool for us to see and I also think that it was kind of low for NBC to cut it.

Well, we didn't get the tribute because we were subjected to the Seacrest/Phelps interview. Blah.

Here it is http://deadspin.com/5929778/heres-th...ant-you-to-see

I've heard a lot of people in the Facebook world who didn't like it (but...I tend to think I have crappy friends! lol) I loved it! It was unique and originial. Definitely a production! The beginning was freaking awesome with the industrial stuff and the rings meeting, and the guy with the top hat and the cigar! Superb show!

There were many people who didn't like it, including me. But I admit that's not my type of thing. Anybody who likes that kind of extravaganza would have liked it, I'm sure. But to me it's just boring and overblown.

But over produced is what an opening ceremony is. Plus, you have to make it for the people who are there first and then for the TV audience. I think if you watched it on TV, it might not be as extravagant, but I thought it was fun, until the parade of nations which I always find boring after a few countries.

That's what I'm saying. If you like that overblown stuff then you'll love it. But if you don't, like me, then you won't. It's just a matter of taste.

That's the playlist. Meanwhile, I wonder if Paul Mccartney is legally required to play "Hey Jude" if found within a London stadium.

Ya, that is true. Matter of taste.

I updated the first post with ratings info.

No, they haven't done that yet tonight.

It's a good race, you don't want to miss it. You've only missed women's Volleyball tonight, so far.
