Will the "Velvet Teddy Bear" come out on top?

American Idol's Season 2 winner Ruben Studdard will compete on the new season of The Biggest Loser, People reports.

Studdard, 34, has been trying to lose weight since he competed on the Fox singing show in 2003. In 2006, he became a vegetarian and shed more than 70 pounds. Two years later, Studdard married, but began putting weight back on after he divorced in 2012.

Studdard released his most recent studio album, Letters from Birmingham, in March 2012.

Season 15 of The Biggest Loser premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c on NBC. Are you excited to see Studdard back on the small screen?

LMAO Well Clay def doesn't need to, but this is kinda cool. I like him. I love this show. Odd that he is announced today and the show isn't until Oct.

Should be interesting. He will have a target on him for sure. This might actually get me to watch.

I don't know. This show really isn't all about targets and what not. That's partially why I love it.

The one season I watched seemed to have that under lying sense of alliances and what not. Guess its changed since then?

Well, I mean they do have that, but it's definitely nothing like Survivor, BB, etc. There is way more camaraderie and encouragement from one to another, I think.

This will be cool. I can hardly wait to see TBL.

And there was the one season where there were some really mean-spirited people on the show. There were a ton of people that complained about several of the contestants like Heda and that other woman. It was awful.
